Enoch Clayton

The first Treasurer, came from Point Pleasant, Atlantic County, New Jersey, and was a member of Trinity Lodge No. 79 at that place. In his young days he was a schooner captain, giving up the sea to go into the stevedore business. Later he was placed in charge of the new C. & O. coal piers, giving that up when he was elected County Sheriff, which office he held until a change in politics retired him. He then formed the present Virginia Transportation Company, which he operated until within a short time of his death.
